Belonging to the Vanes, Ostara is a Norse goddess of fertility, life, earth, nature, youth and spring. It finds its origin in the mists of time and both its name and its myth can directly go back to the Mesopotamian goddess Ishtar, Astarte in the Middle East, Hator among the Egyptians, Venus among the Romans, or even Tanit in Carthage.

However, there is little information about her, so some theorists believe that Ostara is a very ancient goddess, associated, almost interchangeably, with many different goddesses. Same as Freya, as she is the Goddess of fertile spring, of the resurrection of life after winter, also equated with the goddess Idunna, who bore the apples of eternal youth and almost certainly the same as the Greek goddess Eos, goddess of dawn. It is also found under the name of Eostre among the Anglo-Saxons.

She is not mentioned in any myth, her existence was transmitted from generation to generation by oral tradition. A method that was very important and practiced by the Germanic and Nordic peoples, who strictly ensured that their knowledge and culture were not lost.
It appears every year, emerging from its long winter sleep, when day and night last the same time, announcing the end of winter and the coming of fine weather. She then roams the earth which she fertilizes by making it green and the animals mate. She is associated with animals symbolizing renewal: Hens, Chicks, rabbits are sacred to Ostara, especially white rabbits.

In his honour, on the day of his reappearance, a party is dedicated to him simply called: the Ostara party. Eggs are painted in bright colors (yellow, green, purple and pink) associated with the goddess.

We walk barefoot in nature and we pick wild flowers (violets, tulips, hyacinths, jasmine, sage, strawberries).

The Goddess of Fertility was also the Goddess of Grain, so offerings of bread and cakes are also made to her.
